The Story of Takahan | Yuzawa
Located at the end of the main street of Yuzawa, this hotel is perched on a small, peaceful hill.
The first owner of Takahan discovered the source of the first hot spring on the site 800 years ago, and since that time the same family has been managing this traditional hot spring ryokan.
Yuzawa is also known as "Snow Country", thanks to the Nobel Prize-winning novel of that name written by Yasunari Kawabata, inspired by and set in the town. The novel was written while the author was staying at Takahan.
The building was renovated in 1988. The hotel offers a fantastic view of the changing seasons around Yuzawa, and it is well-known for the cuisine's high standard, made of carefully chosen seasonal ingredients.
There is also a small museum about the novel "Snow Country" in Takahan which is free of charge for the customers.

Takahan is located at the very end of Onsen Street just before GALA Yuzawa. Takahan offer a pick up service from Echigo Yuzawa Station.
