Minami Uonuma Cuty is made up of several towns along the valley, bordered on both sides by mountains and with the Uono River flowing through it. Rice fields and farms dominate the valley floor while the mountains host several ski resorts. The rice from this area is arguably the best in Japan. Mount Hakkai, one of Japan's famous 100 peaks is also within the city and is a popular destination year round. An abundance of great onsen also draw many visitors. The area has been famous for weaving and cloth production aswell.
