Otowaya is one of a breed of ryokan that is emerging and offers the best of both worlds: the tradition and exceptional service of the Japanese ryokan, along with some modern touches that enhance your stay. The building itself fits the image of an old ryokan, with a dark wood and white exterior, and the rooms too let you fully experience the Japanese ryokan concept, with clean, simple, elegant decor and fittings.
The modern touches have come from owner's quest to provide an immensely relaxing environment for her guests. Along with the the high quality onsen you would expect in a ryokan there are two private baths available. One takes its inspiration from wood, and the other from stone, and although very different in terms of style, they both off a beautiful bathing experience. Beyond this there is also the Healing Room which is the height of luxury. Beds of hot stone with soothing music and pleasing aromas, another private onsen bath and the biggest, most hi-tech shower for many miles around mean you can really spoil yourself in this ryokan.

Access from Tokyo
Otowaya is on the west side of the station. Turn right onto Onsen Street until you reach a small street on your left that heads up the hill. At the top of the hill at the junction, turn right and the Otowaya parking is up the slope to your left, with the lantern-like sign.
